Aspendos Theatre Day Trip from Belek: Complete Guide

Published: 19 February 20266 min read

The best-preserved Roman theatre in the world is 30 minutes from your Belek hotel. Here's how to visit, what to see, and when to go.

If you visit Belek and don't see Aspendos, you've missed the area's single most important cultural site. The 2nd-century Roman theatre is the best-preserved of its kind in the entire Mediterranean — better than anything in Italy, Greece, or Turkey itself.

Why Aspendos matters

Most Roman theatres survive as ruins — a few stones, the outline of seats, columns reduced to fragments. Aspendos is intact: stage building three storeys high, all 41 rows of seats in place, perfect acoustics. Conferences and operas are still held here.

Getting there from Belek

Distance: 32 km / 25–30 minutes by car. The road is good — main highway D-400 then a clearly signed turn-off. Most hotel concierges can book a taxi for around 700 TL return with 2 hours waiting. Tour buses run from larger Belek hotels for around €15–€25 per person but follow rigid schedules.

Opening hours and tickets

  • Summer (April–October): 08:30–19:00
  • Winter (November–March): 08:30–17:30
  • Tickets: 200 TL (under-7s free)
  • Audio guide: not available — bring your phone for downloaded info

What to see

The theatre itself takes 45–60 minutes to explore properly. Climb to the top row for the best view. Try the famous acoustic test: have one person stand at the centre of the stage and whisper — you can hear them clearly from anywhere.

Beyond the theatre, walk 5 minutes uphill to see the Roman aqueduct ruins, the acropolis (city ruins on a hill), and the basilica. These aren't signposted well — most visitors miss them.

Best time to visit

  • Early morning (08:30–10:00): cool, empty, perfect light for photos
  • Late afternoon (16:00–18:00): also good, with golden-hour lighting
  • Avoid 11:00–15:00 in summer: shadeless, 38°C+ heat

What to combine it with

Most visitors pair Aspendos with one of:

  • Köprülü Canyon (40 min further inland) — rafting, hiking, riverside trout restaurants
  • Sillyon ruins (15 min) — far quieter than Aspendos, requires hiking up a hill
  • Manavgat market (30 min east) — Monday market, then Manavgat waterfall

A full Aspendos + Köprülü Canyon day trip including transfer, both sites, and lunch costs around €60–€80 per person via group tours.

Practical tips

  • Bring water — there's only one café at the entrance
  • Sun hat and sunscreen essential — almost no shade inside
  • Wear good shoes — Roman stone steps can be uneven
  • Photography: tripods need permission; phones and small cameras are fine

Transfer logistics

For Belek visitors, the easiest option is to book a half-day private transfer with us — €60 return for up to 4 passengers, including 2 hours of waiting time at Aspendos. Or combine with Belek hotel-to-airport on your departure day for a stop along the way.
